Our inspectors work to uphold the laws relating to the treatment of animals and make prosecutions where necessary. At our ‘Betty Napier Animal Shelter’ we give sanctuary to animals in distress and re-home suitable animals where possible.

Tauranga Coastguard

The Tauranga Coastguard are a team of dedicated volunteers who are on call 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, to go to the assistance of someone at risk on the water.

Our Mission Statement, is Saving Lives at Sea, and it is something we take very seriously.  We are one of the main resources that can be called upon by the Police, or Rescue Co-ordination Centre of New Zealand, to go to the aid of a stricken vessel. 

Our operators work in shifts, and monitor a number of VHF channels. Coastguard also run marine restricted radio operator courses.

It is a 24 hour, seven day a week operation with the airport café open daily from 30 minutes prior to the first scheduled departure until the last departure.

Tauranga Airport has both short and long term parking options available with varying prices.

The Tauranga Fire Station is crewed with both 24/7 career firefighters, as well as volunteer firefighters. Career crews work on a shift roster, and volunteers respond when required.

We respond to a variety of emergencies in our local area including fires, medical emergencies, car accidents, search and rescue and civil defence responses.

We also conduct fire prevention and school visits, check smoke alarms in homes and businesses, and of course offer fire safety advice.

TAURANGA ART GALLERY

The Tauranga Art Gallery opened on Saturday the 20th of October 2007 and was designed to meet modern art gallery standards. A key focus of the Gallery is education and aligning the exhibitions and events taking place there to fit in with the national education curriculum.

The Gallery holds exhibitions of historical and contemorary art and these include a mix of touring exhibitions from other institutions and individual artist projects. Events held incude guided tours, seminars, screening, debates, floor talks and artist residencies.

Twelve candidates will contest the Tauranga by-election, the Electoral Commission confirmed on 17.05.22.

Candidate nominations for the by-election closed at noon 17.05.22. The seat opened up after Simon Bridges announced his surprise retirement from politics after 14 years as Tauranga MP.

Of the parties in Parliament, National, Labour and Act have candidates. Te Pāti Māori ruled out running last week while Josh Cole, who has previously stood in Tauranga for the Green Party, has backed Labour's candidate.

Tauranga City has a new rubbish, recycling and food scraps kerbside collections beginning July 2021. Households have a 140L rubbish bin, a 240L recycling bin and a 23L food scraps bin.

There is also a kerbside glass collection.

There are two transfer stations for rubbish and recycling in Tauranga. They are Maleme Street in Greerton and Te Maunga in Mount Maunganui. Please note: Maleme Street Transfer Station will close to the public from 2 August 2021.

The Tauranga SPCA has a Mission, a Vision and an important role to play in the community. Each of these aspects requires the support of our entire community. Without you, we could not operate and help those who need our help, or bring justice to those who have failed these innocent animals.

Our inspectors work to uphold the laws relating to the treatment of animals and make prosecutions where necessary. At our ‘Betty Napier Animal Shelter’ we give sanctuary to animals in distress and re-home suitable animals where possible.
